111 First Street: A few Bricks Still Standing

Little remains of the former warehouse at 111 First Street. The last bit of western walls along Warren Street are still up, but those will soon be gone as well.

111 First Street

The demolition continues at 111 First Street.

The recently announced Rem Koolhaus Tower will eventually rise out of the debris

Looking west along First Street, there is still a whole lot of 111 First Street yet to come down.

Rem Koolhaus recently announced plans for the tower that is to replace 111 First Street. Now owners of the Butler Brothers warehouse, seen in the background, are looking to build a tower of their own.

Destruction of 111 First

With all the talk of the Koolhaas proposal, it almost seems as if folks have forgotten about the fact that 111 First street is still a building. Or at least half a building.

111 First Street Demolition

It seems we overlooked this photo of 111 First looking down Bay Street earlier in the week. Its fairly unremarkable for now, except that soon the building will have been removed and that sort of change is interesting.

Less is left of this building every day.

Note that in the lower portion of the picture, the bricks are stacked neatly. These bricks should be making an appearance on the new 111 First Street.

111 First Street Coming Down

Usually we're photographing buildings as they go up. But of course, 111 First needs to first come down before something can go up. A whole floor was removed this week.

Looking along First Street.

The smell of mildew still permeated the air even though workers had not been on the job for hours.

Despite all the debate about preserving the building, there really is only one element of the building worth saving:
