The Merchant

The Merchant is a typical upscale bar serving plenty of beer, but also a decent bistro menu. Some of the appetizers are generous portions-- crab cakes, calmari-- and could serve as a small dinner. Good for parties or large groups and they take reservations. Sometimes the lower dining room is too cold. Outdoor seating in the summer. The Merchant recent began serving brunch from 11 a.m. on weekends.

The food isn't "amazing" but its decent enough. A much better alternative to chains like Chilis but not "gourmet" dining by anymeans-- a worthwhile dinner experience, just not the kind of place to impress someone.

It is a good bar though, a great place to have a few beers, and they are accomodating for large parties. Have been to a number of birthdays here and its always a fun time.

Nice bar, upscale atmosphere, friendly enough bartenders. Comfortable place to relax with a drink.
