Newark Avenue Fire: The Morning After

Not much is left of 143 Newark Avenue as the fire department worked through the night to flatten the unsafe building. We have pictures of what's left posted here.

UPDATE
Flickr user nosenhodge has more photos of the fire, some from the Columbus Drive side of things; larawaystone has more demolition photos from last night; seanaes also has some impressive photos.

im surpirised at how quickly they ended up tearing that building down. Usually these burnt out buildings will sit for a while before they are finally demo'd. Wish the city could make every decision that quickly.

ok, it's been four days, do you think a developer already has been awarded a tax abatement for whatever it will build there?

I wonder if the columbus side of this section (the mural part) will ever get retail.

Am I the only one who thinks the mural is kind of an eye sore? I'd like to see all of that block torn down and Columbus Drive given some nice buildings.

This Grove Path station area has potential to be such a hotspot attraction for Jersey City that the mural eventually needs to go away so retail can take up its place. I don't know what the reality of that is considering there are many individual buildings and many different owners on that block.

Doesnt anyone else feel that this fire was suspicious? Burned and torn down the same night with no ivestigation? Now there is a ugly hole where a historic building once sat.
