The Jersey City Powerhouse with stabilization efforts covering the empty windows

The historic Jersey City powerhouse is well on its way to not falling down. The city initiated a $3.4 million effort to the structure from collapsing and further deteriorating while the building awaits redevelopment. The interior of the structure has long been exposed to the weather and the empty window shells are finally being plugged.

Still to come, the Port Authority must relocated power transformers from the site to someplace else– which has cause part of the delay. Agreeing on where to move the transformers has slowed the redevelopment process.

The stabilization is a city funded effort though the Port Authority still controls the property and a private developer will rehabilitate the building once the transformers are moved.
